Installare Linux Ubuntu su MAC? Facile!

Installare Linux Ubuntu su un MAC, non ci avevo mai pensato, ma potrebbe essere sempre utile, avere un sistema operativo affidabile e opensource sul proprio computer, tutto ciò che serve sono 20 minuti liberi e Boot Camp, una applicazione nativa dei sistemi di Cupertino

* Il primo passo da fare è scaricare la versione del SO Linux più aggiornata per PowerPC da questo indirizzo, oppure ordinare gratuitamente i CD dal sito, ma in questo caso ci vorranno 20 minuti + 5/6 settimane di attesa per i CD ;)
* Una volta completato il download, scompattate e masterizzate su un CD
* Avviate Boot Camp da applicazioni > utility
* Cliccate su continua e impostate lo spazio che volete dedicare a Ubuntu (Linux in genere non ha bisogno di molto spazio, ma 20Gb mi sembra la dotazione ideale)
* Lasciate completare al vostro sistema la partizione del disco, poi inserite il CD masterizzato e riavviate
* Al momento del riavvio tenere premuto ALT o C
* Da questo momento in poi, dovrete solo continuare con l’installazione di Linux!

Ricordo che non perderete i vostri dati e il vostro sistema operativo Apple, semplicemente potrete avere due SO in un solo computer

far funzionare il led delle email di un Acer aspire 1672wlmi con Ubuntu

Per iniziare vostro portatile dovrà essere compatibile con il driver acerhk AKA Acer Hotkey driver for Linux
Il driver è presente di default e per una rapida verifica sulla compatibiltà col vostro hardware vi basta caricarlo(se già non lo fosse) con un semplice
#modprobe acerhk
una volta caricato il driver crea una struttura in "/proc/driver/acerhk/"
all'interno della quale si possono trovare tutti i file relativi ai device da esso supportati:
led email,led bluetooth, ledwifi e un magnifico file info...che se stampatovi darà le informazioni che il driver è riuscito a reperire rispetto alla vostra macchina.
Ovviamente per impostare il caricamento automatico di questo driver ad ogni avvio basta editare /etc/modules e aggiungere una nuova riga con "acerhk".

Passiamo a Gmail: CheckGmail è una simpatica utility che si piazza nella tray e si occupa di controllare ad intervalli da voi prestabiliti la presenza di nuove emails installiamola tramite apt-get e impostiamone l'avvio automatico tramite Sistema->Preferenze->Sessioni
clicchiamo su aggiungi e impostiamo CheckGmail come titolo e "/usr/bin/checkgmail" come programma.

Non ci resta altro che andare nelle preferenze di CheckGmail e impostare
"echo on >/proc/driver/acerhk/led" come programa da esguire in presenza di nuove emails ed
"echo off >/proc/driver/acerhk/led" in modo da spegnere il led quando non ci sono email da leggere...tutto qui.

Volevo infine ricordarvi che acerhk abilita anche l'uso dei tasti speciali quindi tramite "hotkeys" potrete finalmente sfruttare quei bottoncini che apparivano tanto inutili sulla vostra linux box:)
