This is a detailed description about how to set up a Fedora 9 server that offers all services needed by ISPs and hosters: Apache web server (SSL-capable) with PHP5 and Ruby, Postfix mail server with SMTP-AUTH and TLS, BIND DNS server, Proftpd FTP server, MySQL server, Dovecot POP3/IMAP, Quota, Firewall, etc. This tutorial is written for the 32-bit version of Fedora 9, but should apply to the 64-bit version with very little modifications as well.

Negli ultimi mesi a seguito degli annunci di Microsoft c’è stato molto fermento nel mondo open source, cosa sta succedendo realmente? Quali saranno le ripercussioni sulle comunità di sviluppatori? Abbiamo discusso di ciò con Roberto Galoppini, un esperto di Open Source commerciale che tiene molto spesso seminari specifici sull'argomento in molte università italiane.Microsoft ha annunciato la futura apertura al mondo Open Source, cosa succede al gigante americano, vera svolta strategica o pura opportunità? Quello che oggi si profila come un nuovo possibile scenario, in cui Microsoft apre spazi collaborativi (CodePlex), programmi per sviluppatori open source (Open Source Hero) e iniziative di partnership per ISV open source (NXT), ha radici lontane. Sono oramai quasi quattro anni che Microsoft ha aperto il suo primo laboratorio Linux, due anni fa ha poi attivato il laboratorio open source e nel corso dell'ultimo anno ha avviato iniziative come il programma NXT per gli ISV (Independent Software Vendor) open source e recentissimamente il portale "Open Source Hero" dedicato agli sviluppatori. This document describes how to install a Postfix mail server that is based on virtual users and domains, i.e. users and domains that are in a MySQL database. I will also demonstrate the installation and configuration of Courier (Courier-POP3, Courier-IMAP), so that Courier can authenticate against the same MySQL database Postfix uses. In addition to that, this tutorial covers the installation of Amavisd, SpamAssassin and ClamAV so that emails will be scanned for spam and viruses. I will also show how to install SquirrelMail as a webmail interface so that users can read and send emails and change their passwords.
