(io traduco PDF in Formato Documenti Portabile, non so se è la traduzione corretta, per me è quella che più è vicina) Il risultato dell'introduzione del formato Acrobat (così viene chiamato il PDF) è stato per alcuni versi dirompente: intanto questo affare funziona molto bene, la derivazione quasi diretta dal postscript ha "portato" la grande esperienza Adobe con il linguaggio stampanti nel mondo dei documenti portabili, sono anni di esperienza e si vede! Veniamo a Linux, cosa diavolo centra PDF con l'uscita su stampante? semplice, come al solito essendo più semplice da scrivere un file di testo, oppure un file HTML, la cui anteprima può essere fatta al volo con un browser, si converte il testo o l'html in PDF, quindi da PDF a PS è un gioco e, se la stampante non è dotata di PostScript, da PS alla stampante ancora più semplice...
