3D Chess è un gioco di scacchi 3D che offre un’ottima visione in tutte le fasi dell’apprendimento e di gioco. Le pedine e il tavolo di gioco sembrano scolpiti in legno pregiato. I principianti apprezzeranno la possibilità di salvare e riprendere in qualsiasi momento le partite. Il gioco comprende una documentazione molto completa, un orologio e un livello di sfida certificato ELO che permetterà ai giocatori più esperti di affrontare vari livelli di difficoltà da parte del computer. Tante opzioni per creare una grande atmosfera, varie angolazioni di visuale, tre differenti stili grafici e acompagnamento sonoro. There are many (not all are very good) chess games in Linux. There is the one installed by default with the small game packages that come with Ubuntu and most versions of Linux that use Gnome, but I do not like this one very much. It is ok for basic play, but it is really not that good. Another chess game that is slightly better is Dreamchess. This one looks fine and plays decently, but I do not really care for the pictures that represent those playing. There are also far better chess games in Linux. For an some reason though, I cannot get Dreamchess to load on the system I am currently using. Maybe it is because I am using the ATI Rage 128 Pro and the fact that this card has no driver in Linux. I should still be able to play a game of chess though.

Eboard is a chess interface for Unix-like systems (GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, etc.) based on the GTK+ GUI toolkit. It provides a chess board interface to ICS (Internet Chess Servers) like FICS and to chess engines like GNU Chess, Sjeng and Crafty. The primary purpose of eboard is serving as interface to FICS, but also allows you to play against a chess program, analyze saved games, and play with other eboard user on the Internet. eboard is developed by Felipe Bergo (fbergo at gmail dot com , and my handle at FICS is Pulga). eboard is Free Software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. eboard provides many features other interfaces lack, like a good looking, configurable interface, multiple board views, resizeable board (without restarting), seek table, text input separated from the output, input history (bash-like), scripting, scroll lock, and many others.
