NetBackup can run several restores at the same time from a single multiplexed tape. This is done by means of theMPX_RESTORE_DELAY option, which specifies how long, in seconds, the server waits for additional restore requests of files or raw partitions that are in a set of multiplexed images on the same tape. The restore requests received within thisperiod are executed simultaneously. By default, the delay is 30 seconds.

Client software for other machines is planned. See the Amanda homepage for details. The Amanda CDRW-Taper is a drop-in replacement for the taper component of the Amanda backup system. CDRW-Taper makes it possible to dump backups to CD-RW, DVD+RW or DVD-RW instead of tape.
Bastrama is a command-line tool to manage backup files that are stored on random access memory (e.g. hard drives). It implements an infinite grandfather-father-son strategy by deleting a defined subset of the backup files, therefore saving storage space while still keeping some of the older backups in case something went wrong (and needs to be restored from) a long time ago.
CDBackup, utility designed to work with any backup and restore for Linux CDBackup is a utility designed to make backups to CD- R(W) media easier. GNU cpio copies files into or out of a cpio or tar archive. The archive can be another file on the disk, a magnetic tape, or a pipe.GNU cpio supports the following archive formats: binary, old ASCII, new ASCII, crc, HPUX binary, HPUX old ASCII, old tar, and POSIX.1 tar. The tar format is provided for compatability with the tar program.A cpio archive is a stream of files and directories in a single archive, and often ends with a .cpio file extension. The archive has header information that allows for an application such as the GNU cpio tool to extract the files and directories into a file system. The header of a cpio archive also contains information such as the file name, time stamp, owner and permissions
This article describes a simple backup method that I use every day to backup my home Linux systems. It's an easy method that non-technical Linux users can use to backup their important data. We'll discuss the decisions you have to make in order to do a thorough backup. You hear it all the time from writers and your geek friends: "You should backup your computers." Well, here's one more geek to bug you about it again, but also to give some help.
DIBS is a backup system that protects your data by giving your files to peers (and in return, you store their files) so that if a catastrophe strikes your area, you can recover data from surviving peers. This solves the problem of mirroring your data by adding more disks to your own computer only ot have a fire, flood, power surge, etc. wiping out your local data center.Note that DIBS is a backup system, *not* a file sharing system like Napster, Gnutella, Kazaa, etc. In fact, DIBS encrypts all data transmissions so that the peers you trade files with can not access your data.

FileBunker is a file backup application which uses one or more GMail accounts as its backup repository.Because each GMail account supplies 1000 megabytes of storage, it serves as an excellent facility for this purpose.
