Ubuntu Studio è una variante della distribuzione Linux Ubuntu di Canonical dedicata ai professionisti o agli appassionati di grafica, audio e video. Non ci sono grossi cambiamenti in questa versione (i più visibili sono i nuovi menù e icone), ma per il futuro si pensa anche ad un kernel alternativo (linux-rt) sempre per avere bassa latenza.

Gli sviluppatori di Ubuntu Studio, derivata dedicata alla produzione multimediale, hanno infatti annunciato l’intenzione di abbandonare GNOME/Unity in favore di Xfce, un desktop environment che, secondo la loro opinione, si adatta in maniera migliore alle esigenze degli utenti.

Con Canonical ci siamo abituati ad essere precisi. Regolarmente vengono rilasciate tutte le versione di Ubuntu secondo la tabella prefissata per Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Studio, Edubuntu e Kubuntu.
